Jerzy Nowosielski emphasized that his work was greatly influenced by both icon painting and avant-garde art. He built the elements of his artistic language drawing inspiration from surrealism and abstraction, and in figuration he developed in particular the motif of the female body and eschatology. Related narratives, ways of seeing and mapping the world appeared in the works of artists who, like him, experienced the trauma of World War II, but were also undertaken by subsequent generations of Polish artists. The exhibition is an attempt to present the painter's achievements in a broader context and dialogue with Polish art of the second half 20th century.
